All members of UCEO met for the Annual General Meeting [AGM] yesterday, 16/05/12, at 7th Floor NCH at noon.
More than one hundred members were present.
The President of UCEO, P. Shamju, explained the judicial battle led by the UCEO over the past year and the end result. He also explained the main reasons that caused the UCEO not to be recognised by the MRA.
Thereafter he informed the members of the possible outcomes of the union: a) the union is wound-up and the available funds are distributed equally among all members or b) the UCEO continues its judicial battle for recognition.
The Vice-President, Benidin, announced his oncoming retirement from the service and subsequently from the UCEO. He made a brief expose on the historical background of the UCEO and he stressed that the latter must not be wound-up.
The Treasurer, A. Ramtally, announced that the UCEO currently has Rs 330,000 (approx.) as funds.
The President asked the assembly to decide of the outcome of the UCEO. All members unanimously agreed that the UCEO must continue its legal battle for recognition and that it must not be dissolved.
The Secretary, Ms T. Purdassy, announced the names of members who wished to be in office. The names are as follows:
